Is everyone ready for some baseball? Unless you’ve been under a rock for the last 12 months you know this season Alabama Baseball will be playing at the Hoover Met, while The Joe goes through elective major reconstructive surgery. But progress on the “new” Joe is moving along nicely. In fact, the new indoor facility on the third base side is almost complete. It still lacks a few minor details but the team is currently using the building. The team will continue to practice in Tuscaloosa during the week and scrimmage at The Met on weekends, right up to the opener February 13th at 6:30 pm against Maryland Eastern Shore.

Saturday, February 7th, will be our Annual Alabama Grand Slammers BBQ and Baseball Fan Day at the Hoover Met. This year’s format will be somewhat different than our usual format. There will be a Kid’s Clinic that morning and a full scrimmage in the afternoon. In between those two activities the Grand Slammers will hold an abbreviated version of our Annual BBQ, to allow time to get the scrimmage in before it gets too cold. But we will have food and hear from Coach Gaspard and the team. Our Grand Slammer event will be located on the second level, on the third base side of the press box. All 2015 Grand Slammer members will receive two tickets to the BBQ. You will check-in and receive your tickets and gift at the sign-in table at the base of the stairs and elevator that leads to the second level. The room we will use is much smaller than what we are used to, but there is a big patio area adjoining the room we can use. Or if the weather is nice you can eat in the stands. We are not sure what to expect crowd wise, will it be 400 or 4,000? So, we are cooking for a certain number and when the food is gone that’ll be it. As of right now we are opening the food line at 11:00 am and serve until its gone, so I would get there early and get checked-in. Adult plates are $10 and children 12 and under are $5. If you are not able to attend, we will have a meeting in Tuscaloosa shortly after the Fan Day and you can pick-up your gift there.

Even though this year’s venue for games will tax our efforts to hold our cookouts, we will make every attempt to continue this tradition in some form or fashion. We will have information on those events later. But, I would follow our Alabama Grand Slammer Facebook page, as much of our latest information is posted there.

If you haven’t renewed your Grand Slammer membership for 2015 yet, please do so asap, as this will determine what we will be allowed to do during the season. Our membership gift for this year will be a 2015 Alabama Baseball Media Guide and an Alabama Baseball sweatshirt. We will have both gifts at the Fan Day on February 7th.

Renewals are $100 and can be sent to:
